Main types of machete blade.
For most people, the distinguishing feature of most machetes is the shape of the blade, which varies considerably depending on use. Preferences for one style over another are often subjective and, like many other things, are largely based on tradition and experience.
Types of machetes
- Jungle machete : This is the most popular and common model, usually used to clear areas of dense vegetation.
- Parang : It is distinguished by its long and slightly curved blade, it is considered a survival knife, with which you can sweep away any obstacle, break thick wood, etc.
- Kukri: The blade of the kukri is distinguished by its curvature of about 20º, it is categorized as a combat blade, used by the military, and is considered a hybrid between an axe and a knife.
- Bolo : similar to the jungle machete, but differs in having a wider, rounded tip.
Machete blade length
Most machetes range from 25cm to 70cm, with 45cm being the most common length. Smaller blades have less reach, such as the Japanese or samurai swords you'll find in our katana shop , but are more portable. Longer blades are harder to carry, but can clear larger areas in less time.
