Norman battle shields or teardrop shields are one of the most iconic types of shields from the past.
What are teardrop shields?
Norman shields are the so-called kite or almond shields, with a flat or conical top, which was the most popular design. This model had vital advantages over the typical circular shield, the most important advantage of the teardrop shield was that it was long enough to cover the lower part of the knight's body, protecting his body from the shoulders to the calves from possible injuries.
