The Straw Hat Crew One Piece is one of the most iconic shōnen anime of all time, and its success is largely due to the incredible characters that bring this story full of action, adventure, and humor to life. At the center of it all is Monkey D. Luffy, a young man with the dream of becoming the King of the Pirates while searching for the legendary treasure known as the “One Piece”. Throughout his journey, Luffy gathers a unique and diverse crew, each with their own dream and skills. Currently, the crew has ten members, each with a fascinating story and a key role in the group. More than just companions, the Straw Hat Pirates become a true family, which we introduce to you below: 1. Monkey D. Luffy (Image of the Wanokuni II King Of Artist Luffy Figure) The first indispensable member on this list is, naturally, the Straw Hat captain. Luffy is the leader of the crew and the driving force behind their adventures, whose unmistakable straw hat gives the group its name. Far from the classic image of pirates in other stories, Luffy has a brave, cheerful, and carefree character, with a certain degree of innocence, but also with a determination and empathy that inspire those around him. His dream is to become the King of the Pirates and find the “One Piece” treasure, and he demonstrates his unwavering will throughout the journey. Ever since he ate the Gomu Gomu Devil Fruit, his body acquired elastic properties, giving him unique combat abilities. 2. Roronoa Zoro (Image of the Grandista Zoro Figure) Zoro was the first member to join Luffy. Ironically known as “Pirate Hunter”, he was convinced by his captain to join the crew, taking the position of first swordsman. He dreams of becoming the world's greatest swordsman and masters a Santoryu combat style, which uses three swords simultaneously. Although serious and disciplined, he is also loyal and protective of the crew. His epic duels have marked some of the most memorable moments in the series. 3. Mysterious and elegant, Robin seeks to uncover the true history of the world and reveal it, a goal that leads her to face constant dangers. 8. Franky (Image of the Ichibansho Franky Film Red More Beat Figure) Franky is the group's shipwright. He was rebuilt as a cyborg capable of using weapons integrated into his own body after an accident and possesses exceptional engineering skills. What to expect from One Piece in 2025? A little about One Piece The anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, One Piece, first aired in October 1999 and continues to this day, with over 1,100 episodes released. The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who dreams of becoming the King of the Pirates while searching for a legendary treasure known as the “One Piece”. Little is known about this treasure, except that it was hidden by the King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, who revealed its existence before his death, inciting others to embark on its search. The series combines action, adventure, and comedy, while also addressing more serious themes that add depth to both the plot and the characters. They face numerous challenges that test their determination to fulfill their dreams and stand firm in their defense of justice. (Image of the Going Merry Grand Ship Collection Model Kit) Second part of the Egghead Arc Throughout the seasons, we have seen how Luffy, despite sometimes being clumsy or childish, but always with a big heart, has recruited a very diverse crew. During his journey, he has also forged endearing friendships, highlighting values such as loyalty and the strength of true friendship. In October of last year, 2024, the longest hiatus in the anime's broadcast was announced, with the expectation of resuming in April 2025 with the second part of the Egghead Arc. This pause aims to allow the manga to gain more distance from the animation, as it was very close to catching up. In addition, it could serve to improve the animation quality of Toei Animation and allow the episodes to cover more manga content without fear of catching up. However, the arrival of this new anime season is not the only thing fans can look forward to in 2025. Redistribution of the Fish-Man Island Arc Crunchyroll announced a re-edit of this arc, which began its weekly broadcast on November 7, 2024, and will conclude on April 7, 2025. This project consists of only 21 chapters, less than half of the original arc, and features visual and sound improvements. The reduction in the number of episodes seems to be an attempt by Toei Animation to present something similar to a fan project that removed filler from the series, making it more fluid from their perspective and reducing about 400 episodes. Second season of the live action Netflix's One Piece live-action has been one of the best-received adaptations, thanks to its faithfulness to the essence of the original work. It has managed to keep long-time fans while attracting a new audience, without losing sight of the manga it is based on. This project, though ambitious and costly, has been a complete success and has overcome the prejudices generated by previous failed attempts to adapt classic anime to the live-action format. Therefore, the second season is a highly anticipated release in 2025. While the first season adapted about 95 manga chapters in just 8 episodes, this new season will cover the final part of the Loguetown Arc and the Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island Arcs. It will be in the latter that Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), Zoro (Mackenyu), Sanji (Taz Skylar) and Usopp (Jacob Romero) will meet another future crew member: Chopper, whose peculiar appearance has generated much curiosity about how he will be brought to the screen. In addition, new characters such as Vivi (Charithra Chandran), Doctor Kureha (Katey Sagal), Doctor Hiriluk (Mark Harelik), Smoker (Callum Kerr), Tashigi (Julia Rehwald), Crocus (Clive Russell), Brogy (Brendan Murray), and Dorry (Werner Coester) will be introduced. The eldest son of a charcoal seller, Tanjiro loses his entire family in a demon attack, except for his younger sister, Nezuko, who, contaminated by them, transforms into one of these creatures. This tragic event drives him to become a demon slayer with two clear goals: to find a cure for Nezuko and avenge his family. After undergoing rigorous training with Sakonji Urokodaki, Tanjiro masters the "Water Breathing" style, but later perfects the "Dance of the Fire God," an ancestral technique of his family based on "Sun Breathing." This makes him a formidable adversary for demons, but what truly distinguishes him is his ability to empathize even with his enemies, showing a kindness rarely seen in a world as cruel as the one he inhabits. Nezuko Kamado: The Light Amidst the Darkness (Image of the S.h. Figuarts Nezuko Figure) It's impossible to talk about Tanjiro without mentioning his younger sister, Nezuko, the emotional engine of his journey. Nezuko retains part of her humanity, showing an unwavering affection for her brother, while fighting her demonic instincts and resisting attacking humans. To control her demonic impulses, she wears a bamboo muzzle placed by the Water Hashira, Giyū Tomioka, and travels in a wooden box that Tanjiro carries on his back during their adventures. Although she cannot speak, her expressive gestures and expressions make her an easy character to grow fond of. One of the most striking things about Nezuko is her peculiar ability to alter her size, from adopting a childlike form to becoming gigantic in combat. Paradoxically, his true potential is only revealed when he faints, at which point his body acts automatically, showing a technical mastery that few slayers possess. He is a character with great development, whose evolution throughout the series, driven by his loyalty to Tanjiro and his love for Nezuko, transforms him into an admirable character. Inosuke Hashibira: The Wild Force of Nature (Image of the Inosuke Vibration Stars Figure) If there's one character who stands out for his wild and overflowing energy, it's Inosuke. Raised by boars, Inosuke Hashibira has a deep connection to nature and an innate ability to fight, with a unique style, the "Beast Breathing," which he himself created and reflects his fierce and adaptable origin. Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) Story and Plot In Japan, there is an ancient legend that speaks of demonic creatures that attack people at night, devouring them. Koyoharu Gotoge's work, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer), which began publication in 2016, uses this legend as a source of inspiration and presents a supernatural world set in the 20th century, during the Taisho era (the period in which the emperor of the same name reigned). The story takes us to a dark Japan, dominated by the fear of being devoured by these demons. In response, various heroes rise up to fight against them and defeat them, trying to restore hope to humanity. With this purpose, he begins his training to avenge his family and seek a cure for Nezuko, whom he wishes to protect above all else. About Slayers and Demons In this world, both slayers and demons possess emblematic weapons, which has led to numerous replicas and a wide variety of products related to both them and the characters. The slayers' weapons are specially designed to destroy demons and feature unique characteristics that adapt to each wielder. These Nichirin swords acquire a distinctive color when wielded by their owner, and this color reflects the wielder's technique, personality, and character. For example, the protagonist's sword is black, an extremely rare case among slayers. (Image of Funko Pop, Tanjiro vs Rui) Both groups have elites formed by the most powerful and meritorious individuals: The 9 Pillars (Hashira): They are the strongest demon slayers, dedicated to protecting humanity. This group, led by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, requires its members to have defeated at least 50 demons or one of the members of the 12 Demon Moons. As a curiosity, Tanjiro's master, Urokodaki, was one of these Pillars. The 12 Demon Moons (12 Kizuki): They are demons who serve under Muzan Kibutsuji and bear a distinctive mark on one of their eyes. This group is divided into Lower Moons, which groups the six weakest, and Upper Moons, which includes the six most powerful. The demons of Kimetsu no Yaiba The legend of the "night demons" may evoke the well-known vampires, and it may not be a coincidence that there are several similarities between these creatures and the demons presented to us by Kimetsu no Yaiba. Their Origin Except for Muzan, who was born as a result of a medicine created from the Blue Spider Lily, most demons are humans who have been transformed by being contaminated with the blood of other powerful demons. This process, although effective in some cases, is not always successful, as not all humans manage to survive the transformation. Characteristics and Weaknesses Humans converted into demons lose all their memories as such, being dominated by a primitive instinct that drives them to feed on human flesh and blood. This conversion grants them supernatural abilities and a longevity close to immortality. Despite maintaining a human appearance, they often have pale skin and feline eyes, accompanied by distinctive features such as horns or pointed ears. As they consume humans, their power and intellect increase, making them more cunning and dangerous. Many of them manage to hide among humans, using their appearance to go unnoticed and avoid being hunted. Although they are extremely strong, demons have specific weaknesses that they share, these being: Sunlight, which can be fatal to them; the scent of wisteria flowers, and Nichirin weapons: The slayers' swords, forged specifically to eliminate them. Finally, demons are linked to the progenitor Muzan Kibutsuji, who has the ability to read their thoughts, see through their eyes, locate them, and, if he deems it necessary, eliminate them remotely. However, this connection can be broken if a demon possesses a will strong enough to resist his control. At least to most fans of vampire stories, many of these characteristics of the demons of Kimetsu no Yaiba will sound familiar, right? Even so, this in no way affects the depth of the plot or the complexity with which this fascinating world has been built.
