This long medieval dress made of solid cotton fabric is loosely cut and can be individually adapted thanks to the side laces. The sleeves and the cuffs are contrasting in colour and thus create the impression of an undergarment. The neckline and the sleeve are decorated with embroidery.
The appearance and cut of women's dress is based
in 12th century fashion. It was at this time that this type of dress, which is also called bliaut (or bliaud), emerged. The tunic, whose length varied from calf-length to floor-length, was characterised in particular by side lacing, a flared skirt part and trumpet sleeves. In addition, the bliaut was often decorated. Depictions of Bliauts from the period can be found, for example, in the Hortus Deliciarum, an encyclopaedic work from the end of the 12th century, or in the manuscript of Terenz's comedies illustrated in 1150.
