The term Nierenolch refers to a dagger with a straight, double-edged blade, which tapers from the magazine to the butt. The wooden handle has a quillons, which is provided on the sides with two spherical or egg-shaped bulges. Due to the similar shape this dagger version received the name of the kidney dagger (Engl. Kidney dagger) or testicles dagger (Engl. cojones). The original name in England was therefore Ballock Dagger or Bollock Dagger.
This Ulfberth replica comes very close to this late medieval melee weapon. The handle is carved from one piece of wood and the scabbard is made from solid cowhide. The carbon steel blade is unsharpened.
