Spathae are known since Roman times, later adapted and developed by Germanic tribes. They are heavy duty knives with wide, double-edged, straight blades, which are guided with one hand.
They were common in German settlements from the 1st to the 6th century. The blade is forged from high-quality spring steel and hardened to about 48 HRC. It has a pronounced hollow groove, which gives the sword great elasticity and, at the same time, lightness. The cutting edge is not sharpened.
The handle and guard are made of riveted brass plates, the interior including a horn disc. The handle is made of wood, brass and horn.
Delivery includes a matching sword scabbard made of wood covered with leather and has brass plates.
