The Spada da lato (literally from Italian Spada da Lato) was a military sword of the Renaissance (16th-17th century), which gained great popularity even among civilians due to its relatively light weight and agility. Contrary to the fact that it was popular at the same time, the rapier had the advantage that it was not only an efficient hiebwaffe, but could also serve as a thrusting weapon. Seitschwerter were popular weapons in sword and shield fighting.
The da lato Paul Chen Spada (sharp version, item no. SH2203) is modeled after a template from Germany and has excellent balancing properties with a sweeping grip, which ensures excellent hand protection. The here presented Battle Sword by Paul Chen is equipped with the same handle as the sharp version, but has a safe for the combat training blade.
Combat with the Spada da lato, whether in sword/buckler- or their sword/dagger combination, are growing in popularity in the ranks of the various Renaissance reenactment satisfied.
