Scutum Junior, children's wooden Roman shield
This shield is a scale replica of an ancient tower shield (the so-called Scutums ) from the 1st/2nd century AD, as carried by Roman legionaries of the Imperial era. Real Roman soldiers never left camp without their shields. shield belonged to the armor ( lorica ), the helmet ( galea ) and the short sword ( gladius ), the equipment of every brave legionary. This Roman shield for small legionaries is made of wood approximately 8 mm thick. It is covered with linen , hand painted on the front and with a generous shield boss (called umbo ) made of steel. The horizontal handle placed on the back directly behind the hump is also made of wood.
With this wooden shield, every child is well equipped to defend their castle. The Roman camp, the carnival party or the playground at home become the setting for great heroic deeds.
