This Scottish Targe is truly a piece of history.
During the Jacobin uprising, the Scottish campaigner William Lindsay of Perth made hundreds of targets for Charles Edward Stuart's army. He made significant price differences between the officers' targets and the ordinary shields of the simpler soldiers.
The original of our replica was most likely made by him, as it was captured in 1746 at the Battle of Culloden and taken to London along with Jacobin prisoners. It is now in The Royal Armouries Museum at the Tower of London.
This excellent museum replica from PrimusArms has a removable steel tip that makes it a wicked weapon.
The Targe has a shield hump and decorative bronze studs. The leather is embossed with beautiful Celtic ornaments.
The shield is made of hand-dyed leather, which is fastened with brass rivets.
