The pellote is believed to be a garment, originally a coat, which became a show-off garment. According to sources, it seems to have come from the exaggeration of foreign fashions, widening the neckline of sleeveless tunics worn in other parts of Europe. In women's fashion towards the end of the 13th century, pellotes can be seen with side openings, which are usually very exaggerated. In the case of men, necklines narrowed to an almost unbelievable point are also seen, such as that of Fernando de la Cerda.
