The Naginata is a weapon of Japanese origin that is very important to martial arts, especially to the Japanese warrior monks known as Sohei. Paul Chen has created the Naginata adapted to the needs of today's martial artists, but maintaining the traditional qualities that make it a fearsome weapon in the hands of a skilled fighter.

The Leaf

The blade of the Naginata has been forged from 1065 carbon steel, which is faithful to the original. The blade has been hardened at the edge, just as ancient blacksmiths traditionally did, using a layer of clay. This technique provides a durable and resistant blade.

The Spike

Paul Chen's Naginata has a long, firm tang that provides better shock absorption. The tang has a strong distal taper to balance the blade and improve the weapon's speed.

The Tsuba

Paul Chen's Naginata comes with a finely engraved Tsuba with a silver butterfly motif. The Tsuba is a protective ring that is placed around the blade to prevent it from coming into contact with the opponent or any other object that could harm it.

The Rod

The one-piece shaft, known as Ebu, is extremely stable and has a teardrop-shaped section to recognise the direction of the blade. In addition, it has a black non-slip surface for better control of the weapon during training and fighting.

Accessories

The Naginata comes with a wooden saya and a cloth sheath. The saya is a protective sheath that covers and protects the blade of the Naginata when it is not in use, while the cloth sheath is used to safely carry and store the Naginata.

Specs

The blade of the Paul Chen Hanwei HN-SH1020 Naginata is made of T10 carbon steel, has an overall length of approximately 195 cm, a blade length of approximately 51.4 cm, and a handle length of approximately 141 cm.
