It was always possible to thrust the point of a weapon through mail rings or cut it off with a good cut. This often drove the damaged rings deep into the wound. Even if the blow did not cut the mail, the blunt trauma alone was enough to break a bone or cause internal damage. A thick, padded garment worn beneath the mail greatly reduces the risk of such injuries and makes the armour more comfortable to wear.

These upper leg pads protect like a gambeson and reach just below the knee. The pads fasten from the back with drawstrings and can be suspended from a gun belt or gun jacket with drawstrings (sold separately). Made from 100% cotton canvas.
