Maces of this type were used for hundreds of years, because they were simple and fairly inexpensive to make and also the most effective against enemies in Plate. . Striking blades were used to concentrate the weight and power of a punch onto one or two narrow, protruding ribs in order to better transfer the power and thus be able to crush flesh, bone and armour. A heavy blow with the mace could paralyse the heart of an armoured opponent or wound him so that he could no longer move his arm, leg, knee or elbow and was thus unable to fight. The mace was used by guardsmen, archers, foot soldiers, armoured men and knights.
The six-flap mace offered here may be of a rather simple design, but is therefore suitable "through-scene" for any interested person or reenactor, and at a moderate price.
