Death Eaters are unconditional followers of Lord Voldemort. Their origins date back to Tom Riddle's years at Hogwarts. They carry out his dirty missions and obey him blindly, to the point of putting their loyalty to him before their family.
As proof of this loyalty, they all have the Dark Mark, Lord Voldemort's symbol, tattooed on their left arms. Voldemort uses the Dark Mark to summon his loyal legions. The Death Eaters were Lord Voldemort's army in the war and were his most faithful allies. Their tasks included fighting against the Ministry of Magic and the Order of the Phoenix, as well as waging psychological warfare against those who opposed their Lord by attacking their families.
