In ancient Rome, an arm guard called a manica was used primarily by gladiators and also militarily. It reached from the shoulder to the hand and was initially made of organic materials such as linen or leather. Later, pieces of chain, as well as scales and steel bars, were also used.
This replica of a manica consists of brass rails that are riveted together. It has a protective plate for the hand and a leather underside, which is attached to the brass plates with leather cords. The manica is attached to the arm with leather straps and brass buckles.
At the shoulder end there are also two clamping rings.
