The beneficiary has been traced back to the 1st century AD and performed various tasks in the Roman Empire.
Within the legions, non-commissioned officers were assigned to the main officers.
Outside of normal service, beneficiaries were stationed as highway police at important external and internal borders of the Reich and controlled the movement of goods.
The spear offered here was their distinctive feature, by which they were recognizable from afar.
