JackChains were an important part of the protective equipment of the medieval soldier who was usually not dressed in plate armour but wore a padded armour jacket to protect his upper body with jackchains strapped or sewn to the arms to protect from slashing cuts. Modern studies have indicated that these chains prevented up to 80% of possible arm injuries.
