DETAILS

Epic Armoury's Black Splint Shoulders are a set of two simple boulders. The boulders feature a solid metal plate with a contoured shape to rotate and absorb blows to the arm. The boulders are held in place by leather straps around the bicep, as well as a cord at the shoulder that attaches to a cuirass or gambeson. Along the top of the shoulder they are adorned with a scalloped metal toggle and black leather.

Splint Shoulders are striking in style and pair exceptionally well with Epic Armoury's Splint Bracers and Poleyns. Made from 1mm thick mild steel and top grain leather straps and fittings, this piece of armour is designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or re-enactment with regular leather and metal armour care.

HISTORY

• Plate armour became more popular as firearms technology became more prevalent during the 13th century.
• Typically worn over a gambeson for added comfort and safety.
• At the top of the pauldron, a vertical plate was called a sword-breaker , and was designed to catch and deflect blows before they could impact the head.
