Usually combined with arm guards and gauntlets, this type of simple shoulder protection began to be seen very frequently in the mid-14th century in forms such as this one. The priority of protection with rigid parts gave great importance to covering the joints, as can be seen following the development of medieval armour, in which there was a tendency to cover knees and shoulders as early as the end of the 13th century.
