The blade of the Katana Oni is made of L6/Bainite steel, which ensures excellent cutting performance. The geometry of the blade ensures that the sword is easy to handle and highly precise. The production of Katana blades with bainite body and extremely hard martensite edge (Yakiba) is a very difficult process that requires a sophisticated heat treatment procedure. Hanwei has mastered this difficult process and uses L-6 steel (a very robust, low-alloy carbon steel) as the basis for the manufacture of this katana sword. The blades are forged as usual and then carefully heat treated to achieve the optimal formation of bainite and martensite. Finally, they are polished.
