Oni are mythical creatures from Japanese mythology that resemble Western demons and trolls. In modern culture, Oni are seen less as menacing creatures and more as protectors. However, their power and ferocity have not diminished.

The blade of the Katana Oni is made of L6/Bainite steel, which ensures excellent cutting performance. The geometry of the blade ensures that the sword is easy to handle and highly precise. Bainite is a carbon steel structure that combines high strength with excellent flexibility and impact resistance, making it a popular choice among swordsmiths for the production of Katana blades.

The handle (Tsuka) is wrapped in black ray skin and silk cord, providing a comfortable and secure grip. The stand (koshirae) is decorated with classic oni motifs in different styles, making the Oni Katana a unique and distinctive sword.

The production of Katana blades with bainite body and extremely hard martensite edge (Yakiba) is a very difficult process that requires a sophisticated heat treatment procedure. Hanwei has mastered this difficult process and uses L-6 steel (a very robust, low-alloy carbon steel) as the basis for the manufacture of this katana sword. The blades are forged as usual and then carefully heat treated to achieve the optimal formation of bainite and martensite. Finally, they are polished.

The Hanwei Katana Oni is a sword designed for both martial artists and collectors. With a Rockwell hardness of around 58-60 HRC, the cutting edge is of high quality, while the back of the blade has a hardness of approximately 38-42 HRC. With an overall length of approximately 111.8 cm, the blade measures around 73.5 cm, and the handle about 35.6 cm. The weight is approximately 1361 g, providing a perfect balance for use.
