The Tamahagane steel blade is forged using high-grade steel obtained from the traditional Japanese furnace, Tatara. This type of furnace produces very pure steel from iron sand. The resulting steel, called Kera (flower), is separated into different carbon-containing pieces, from which the blade core and sheath are formed. The blade shell is then repeated forged and folded to remove slag inclusions and voids. The blade is forged with special care and attention before being heat-treated and then polished to reveal the Hada and white Hamon particles.

The design of the katana is inspired by the art of origami, the folding of paper, and features beautiful decoration of paper cranes on the Tsuba, Fuchi and Kashira. The Menuki feature MIME masks that are used in Japanese and Western theatre alike. The Saya accommodates a Kozuka and is decorated with musical instruments from the theatre.
