Cold Steel® Tomahawks are precision-forged from 1055 carbon steel. In the manufacture of impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, stamping offers many clear advantages. With the help of several dies (hollow moulds/die), which are connected to huge forging hammers, the steel is shaped step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed to achieve a uniform grain and minimise the formation of defects. All Cold Steel® Tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened so that they can be sharpened, while the rest of the head is kept softer to cushion shocks and impacts.
American Tomahawk Company® is a registered trademark and a subsidiary of Cold Steel®, Inc.
Hudson Bay Hawk
Nearly all tomahawks on the market today are derived from the Hudson Bay axe, which was widely used for centuries in the vast forests and swamps of northeastern Canada. Known for its versatility and high performance, this axe quickly became indispensable for anyone attempting to take a life from the wilderness.
The Cold Steel® team is also a big fan of this famous axe model and has decided to develop a scaled-down version in Tomahawk format. Like all other tomahawks in the collection, this one is forged from 1055 carbon steel. It has a classically designed cutting edge that is approximately 9 cm long and a generously designed hammer head for striking, pounding or hammering. And since the hammer head, like the axe blade, has been differentially hardened, it is even suitable for driving nails and pins. The handle is made of sturdy, straight-grained hickory wood from American production. This axe is always ready for life in the woods. And in an emergency situation, it can also act as a tremendously effective weapon.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively small proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that are supposed to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large knives, machetes and swords.
