This Viking Age saxophone knife (also called broken back saxophone due to its special blade shape) has a long, hand forged blade made of carbon steel with a strong backing. It is not fully polished and the blade mirror still has the black forge layer of scales and forging traces, which gives the knife a rustic and authentic character.
The striking and absolutely stunningly beautiful handle is made of bone, polished and decorated with beautiful engravings of Odin's two messenger ravens, Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn) and their names in Norse runes. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard and return to the father of the gods (also called Hrafnáss the night raven god for , called the "Raven God") to tell him everything they saw and heard. The bird pair is a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art.
The Viking Langsax comes with a beautiful sheath made from strong vegetable-tanned leather with hand-knotted designs in Nordic style and brass fittings with an antique finish, including two rings for hanging. The bird motif depicted on the handle is repeated on one side of the sheath. Each raven is made from brass and fastened with rivets.
Although the Viking knife is fully functional, the edge has only been sharpened. If necessary, it should be sharpened to improve sharpness. Please note that this Skramasax was primarily designed as a collector's item or decorative item and is not suitable for display combat.
