Viking axe based on an archaeological find from Rommunds , Gotland This high-quality Viking Age beard axe was handcrafted from an original iron find from Rommunds (Gammelgarn, Gotland, Sweden), dating to around 800-1099 AD (see last two pictures).
The axe blade was hand-forged from carbon steel. Its special shape has plant-like decorative elements, and the original dimensions of the historical model have been preserved. The original find from early medieval Gotland, which may have served both as a battle axe and as a work axe, can be admired at the State Historical Museum ( Statens historiska museum , or Historiska museet for short) in Stockholm.
The Rommunds hand axe is equipped with a natural ash wood handle.
It should be noted that the blade is sharp and fully functional. Therefore, this Viking axe is not suitable for display combat and is only intended as a collector's item or decorative object.
