The beard axe or skeggá¸x (from the Old Norse word skegg for beard and á¸x for axe) enjoyed great popularity as a tool and as a weapon from the 6th century until the end of the Viking Age. Compared to the sword, it was not only simpler, but also much cheaper to manufacture and therefore the most important weapon of the common people in early medieval Scandinavia.
The high-quality Viking axe we offer here was inspired by an archaeological find from the Swedish island of Gotland. The axe blade is hand-forged from carbon steel and mounted on a painted wooden shaft.
It should be noted that the blade is sharp and fully functional. Therefore, this Gotlandic Viking axe is not suitable for display combat and is only intended as a collector's item or decorative object.
