On the medieval battlefield, the assassin's axe ( pollaxe or pole axe ) was the great equalizer between the simple infantryman and the immensely powerful mounted knight thanks to its long reach and sheer power. Surprisingly smooth, it was the machine gun of its day and simply unstoppable for its maneuverability.

Today's murderous axe retains the same properties that made it famous on the battlefields of yesteryear. As capable of defeating today's modern armour as that of the old knights, it demonstrates real effectiveness.

Through years of experimentation and cross-training with axes, glaives, halberds and other arms and clubs from around the world and by examining a variety of martial culture Lynn C. Thompson, founder of Cold Steel®, discovered the enormous potential of the bar weapon against legions of opponents, even equipped with modern armor and aids. Having long had a special affection for this weapon, she decided to bring out her own modern interpretation of this impressive instrument.

The Cold Steel® Killing Axe is expertly forged from 1055 carbon steel. The razor-sharp axe blade and the sturdy hammer head have been differentially hardened, making the ends hard while the rest of the body is slightly softer to absorb shock and impact.

The sturdy ash wood shaft is made in the USA and reinforced with black steel shaft springs.
