In the late Middle Ages and early modern period, gauntlets were an indispensable part of plate armour. In both hand-to-hand combat and jousting tournaments , they offered protection for the hands and wrists.
The late medieval combat gloves we offer here in pair, due to their special hourglass shape as hourglass gloves are known . Very similar gloves belong to the famous Churburg plate armour # 13. The original full armour, which was probably made in Milan at the end of the 14th century (approx. 1390), can now be admired in the Churburg armoury ( Castel Coira ) in South Tyrol.
Our Churburg armoured gloves are handmade from 1 to 1.2 mm thick steel (due to the manual manufacturing process, slight deviations in the steel thickness are possible). Like the original models, they are artistically decorated and reinforced with brass foils on the knuckles, wrist and lower edge of the cuff. The interior is blackened for better protection against corrosion and lined with sewn-in gloves made of soft suede.
These fingered Hentzen are not only characterised by their authentic and historically correct appearance, but also by their flexible design, which guarantees sufficient freedom of movement. Integrated suede gloves and additionally sewn and nailed inserts made of robust leather, which prevent the steel plates from rubbing, ensure comfort.
Of course, these freely moving and wearable plate gauntlets can also be combined with other medieval knightly armour other than the Churburg armour. They blend best with late medieval backgrounds and are particularly suitable for depicting a 14th century European warrior or knight. Please note, however, that this pair of armoured gauntlets is not suitable for display combat, but is instead intended for high-end costumes or as a collector's item or display.
