Birka Herringbone Cap, Multicolour 1280002450

This cap is made from strong cotton fabric with a woven herringbone pattern and has a contrasting colored headband made from canvas. The inside of the cap is lined with a light cotton lining.

The wearing of hats was common for both sexes in the Middle Ages; however, caps of this type were only worn by men. They were available both in a plain version and with fur trim. There is evidence of both the Haithabu and Birka styles.
