Padded armor layer that covers the torso, abdomen, back and arms.

It can be worn alone or serve as essential padding under mail or armour. The gambeson is worn like a jacket and fastens in the front with four leather straps with iron buckles.

Thick enough to serve as its own armor, this sturdy gambeson is constructed of heavy layers of sponged cotton padding sandwiched between heavy colored cotton, all stitched in vertical lines. The stitching holds the padding in place and mimics a classic European high medieval style. The gambeson is open under the armpits to allow the wearer to breathe and have easy movement.

Although European in cut, gambeson or padded style armour has seen worldwide use since antediluvian times, making the Ready for Battle Gambeson a great basic armour with a range of possibilities regardless of time and place.

MAINTENANCE

As a heavy duty fabric, this lightweight canvas product is stronger and heavier than plain cotton. This material wrinkles easily, but can be ironed at a higher heat setting.

Cleaning

Machine wash at 40°C/104°F. Wash separately the first time and with like colours afterwards. Tumble dry on low heat, but be aware that it may shrink up to 5%. For general stains or discolouration on the canvas, treat with a commercial fabric cleaner or dry with warm water and a soft cloth.
