This gambeson can be seen in many of the miniatures in the Maciejowski Bible. In these illuminations, the high collar is buttoned up to the top with fabric buttons and the gauntlets are attached to the sleeve. It was used as protection for infantry troops and, curiously, this piece is always depicted on troops carrying polearms.
