Early Viking Godfred Sword with Scabbard
The early Viking sword Godfred with scabbard and Damascus blade is a beautiful reconstruction of a sword that belonged to the feared Danish king Godfred. This king, also known as Gudfred or Gudrød, lived until his death in 810 in Haithabu, which was the most important Viking settlement in Jutland at the time.
This sword dates back to the 8th century and has the typical shape of an early medieval Viking sword with a short, slightly forward-curved parier rod, a straight, double-edged blade with a hollow throat, a wide, three-beaded pommel. Best of all, this sword is made exclusively by hand, so each piece is unique.
For its manufacture, a bar and a knob with the three beads made of heat-treated forged cast iron are used. The 100-layer Damascus steel blade is continuous up to the knob and hand-riveted there. The handle is wrapped in a wide leather strap. The blade has a pronounced hollow throat, which gives the sword great elasticity and lightness at the same time, and the cutting edges of the blade are not sharpened.
The sword comes with a very nice wooden leather scabbard with a leather sword belt for comfort and safety. The blade of the sword is considered one of the best blades in existence due to the technique used for its production.
Damascus steel, also known simply as Damascus, is a composite steel made from two or more different types of steel. In this case, a hard, high-carbon steel and a soft, low-carbon steel are joined together through repeated fire welding and folding. The combination of these two types of steel ensures higher hardness, better curability, and greater cutting durability, while the softer steel gives the blade greater elasticity and higher resistance to breaking. This process creates stunning patterns of the alternating layers on the sword, giving it an inherent magic.
The sword is available in two variants with spring steel blades: normal version (item no. 0116696618) and the show fighting performance version (item no. 0116696606).
