This battle-ready Viking sword was developed in close collaboration with fencing and martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West-Coast-Institut . Sadly, Volker did not live to see the market launch of this small series. He passed away too soon in April 2021.
The goal was to offer a battle-ready sword, strong yet lightweight and well-balanced, for a smaller budget. Here, Volker brought his many years of experience as a fencing teacher, trainer and travelling trader in medieval markets to bear. The Ulfberth® team and their blacksmiths implemented these specifications, and the result is a battle-ready Viking sword with excellent value for money.
It features a blade forged from spring steel, which was oil-hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of approx. 48-52 HRC. The very wide channel makes it flexible and light. The sword comes with approx. 2 - 2.5 mm edge thickness and a relatively wide, rounded tip, making it suitable for stage combat.
This sword is available with two different blade lengths (select the model you need from the drop-down menu: short = 64 cm / long = 74 cm). The short version is particularly ideal as a beginner sword for fencers who are not yet too strong.
Matching leather sheaths with sword belt (product no. ULF-SW-11SA or ULF-SW-11SB ) are available separately.
