This is Sasuke Uchiha's black, hand-forged sword from the Naruto anime series.

Sasuke is one of the top scorers at the ninja learning school and the top "Genin" (rookie/top-level ninja) of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. He is the only remaining member of the Uchiha clan, a once-powerful ninja clan in the village. He is very dark and serious, and focuses on nothing but training to become a stronger ninja. All of this has one ultimate goal: revenge. His life's ambition is to become powerful enough to kill a "certain man" (his older brother Itachi). As part of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke has a higher "chakra" (spiritual energy/chi). He also has a technique to blow fireballs out of his mouth.

Also, as a member of the Uchiha clan, he inherits the clan's Kekkei Genkai (or bloodline trait): the Sharingan. He begins to unlock it in the fight with Haku (who himself was using a Kekkei Genkai) and gradually gains strength as he learns to use it to track movements and observe ninjitsu techniques. It helps to have an airhead like Naruto as a teammate. He initially dislikes Naruto, but as he and Sakura learn to work as a team, he shows a surprising willingness to protect Naruto. It's the start of a rather complex relationship between teammates and rivals, as each watches the other but at the same time wants to be better than the other. When Sasuke fought Naruto, each of them used a powerful jutsu. Naruto uses Rasengen and Sasuke uses Chidori. Chidori, also known as Raikiri (lightning sword), is a jutsu taught to him by Kakashi.

* That sword is the one Sasuke carries after he left the Leaf Village to train under Orochimaru, one of the main antagonists in the series. Sasuke seeks to kill his older brother out of revenge when Itachi (Sasuke's brother) went berserk and murdered the entire Uchiha clan save for himself and Sasuke. After two years with Orochimaru, Sasuke killed him when he realized he had surpassed his master and no longer needed him. After that we see him carrying around, but rarely using the sword. Though this is probably due to the fact that we've only seen a little of what happened to Sasuke after he formed a team to help him track down his brother.

The sword is 101 cm long and has a 70 cm long blade. The blade is hand forged and sharpened.
