Irish ring-knob sword, incl. scabbard
Nowadays, it is popular to find faithful and inexpensive replicas of historical weapons on the market. One such weapon is the Irish ring-knob broadsword, incl. scabbard 0116329200. This one-handed sword is based on several original finds and illustrations of Kerns (Irish light infantry soldiers), who used it in the 15th and 16th centuries. This weapon is characterized by a wide blade and a typical ring-knob that is recognizable throughout Ireland.
The blade is made of EN45 spring steel, which is sharpened for about two-thirds of its length. The cutting edges are not sharpened and the continuous blade is screwed into the pommel. The handle consists of an S-shaped parry bar about 19 cm long, a wooden handle covered with sad leather and a solid ring pommel. The sword is also delivered with a full-length wooden and sad leather cuff and tongue plate and sword circumference band.
It is important to note that this historical sword is not designed for display combat. It is more suitable as a collector's item or as a stage prop. In addition, it is an excellent accessory to complete your Irish martial arts costume.
The overall length of the sword is approximately 103 cm, with a blade length of approximately 82 cm. The length of the blade is approximately 4 mm, with the cutting edges measuring approximately 1 mm. The length of the handle is approximately 21 cm, with the handle measuring approximately 12 cm. The largest part of the blade is approximately 4.5 cm and the centre of weight is located approximately 18 cm in front of the handle. The ring pommel measures approximately 5.5 cm in diameter and 8 mm in height. The weight of the sword without the handle is approximately 1.15 kg.
It is important to note that the sword used is not stainless and may show signs of corrosion over time. To keep the blade in good condition, it is recommended to regularly care for it with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving sword products.
In outline, the Irish Ring-Knobbed Sword is a beautiful piece of Irish history, faithfully and economically reconstructed for the enjoyment and teaching of history buffs and collectors.
