Functional sword from the Vendel period
If you are a history enthusiast and love discovering and collecting ancient historical weapons, then you might want to consider adding the 0116041200 Vendel Period Functional Sword to your collection. This beautiful Vendel period sword is inspired by a finely crafted and richly decorated find excavated from a ship grave at the ship cemetery near Uppsala, Sweden. It has sumptuous and intricate detailing and is believed to have been the prestige weapon of a 7th/8th century Swedish chieftain, nobleman or elite warrior.
The sword is approximately 89.5 centimetres long, with a double-edged blade forged from high-quality EN45 spring steel. The edges are not sharpened, but the sword is durable and sturdy. Additionally, it features a 9 centimetre long guard and a generously sized pommel, both made from brass. The handle of the sword is made from high-quality wood and is covered in brown leather for better comfort and grip.
The sword's antique brass finish is accented by contrasting tinned brass bands that give it an authentic Vendel-era look. The pommel cap is inlaid with red enamel that replicates genuine garnets. Additionally, the pommel is composed of several parts riveted together, like many other original examples from this time period.
The sword comes complete with a brown leather and wood scabbard with wooden suspension loop and antiqued brass chape. The sword is not a battle-ready weapon, but it makes for a spectacular collector's item and decoration/display. It is also a perfect, authentic accessory to complement your costume.
It is essential to understand that this sword is a collector's, decorative and display item and is not suitable for combat reenactment. The Vendel sword is also available in a Damascus steel version in our shop (product number 0116041201).
