Lübeck knight's sword with scabbard
The Lübeck Knight's Sword with Scabbard is a highly handcrafted piece that is based on a 13th-century archaeological find classified as Oakeshott Type XII. Even though the decorative replica is designed to be inexpensive, it does not compromise on quality and attention to detail. The sword is made from EN45 spring steel, a heat-treated carbon steel that is not stainless. Although the cutting edges are not sharpened, the double-edged blade is broad and evenly tapered with a gap at approximately two-thirds of its length. The blade guard is riveted to the pommel, which has a reddish-brown leather winding and is topped with a steel rivet block.
With an overall length of approximately 107 cm, the knight's sword stands out for its impressive length, which is quite unusual for one-handed Type XII users. The blade measures 89 cm in length and a thickness of around 4 mm, while the weight of the sword is approximately 1.5 kg without the scabbard and around 1.96 kg with it. The width of the blade is approximately 5.5 cm, and the centre of gravity is located approximately 16 cm in front of the guard. Additionally, each sword may have slight variations in its specifications due to its manufacturing process.
It is important to note that this knight's sword is not suitable for performing in show fighting, but is instead designed as a collector's item or decorative object. In addition, it is also excellent as an accessory to complete certain outfits and make the transformation into a noble knight more authentic. The sword comes with a reddish-brown wooden and leather scabbard that is coordinated to complement the winding of the handle.
It is important to note that the steel used in the sword may have slight traces of corrosion and is not rust-free. It is therefore recommended to maintain the blade regularly for its preservation, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for steel products. In short, the Lübeck knight's sword with scabbard is an impressive replica of a medieval sword that stands out for its impressive length and typical features of crusaders in the High Middle Ages. While not suitable for show fighting, it is perfect as a collector's item, decorative object or accessory to complete medieval costumes.
