Early Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo Sword

The Early Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo Sword with Scabbard, 7th century (0116041000) is a stunning and detailed replica of a sword found in the burial chamber of an important Anglo-Saxon king at Sutton Hoo, East Anglia, England. Archaeologists discovered numerous valuable objects in the tomb, including the famous Great Gold Buckle and the Sutton Hoo helmet, both exceptional examples of Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship.

This one-handed sword is based on fragments of a finely worked hilt that included a garnet-set gilt tricorn pommel, which can now be admired in the British Museum in London. The blade of the sword is a classic early medieval Germanic broad and straight double-edged blade made of EN45 spring steel. The richly decorated fore-end consists of several riveted parts, and the wooden handle is leather-wrapped and decorated with antique-finished brass fittings.

The base of the pommel and the sword guard are constructed in three parts, with a wooden middle layer between two brass plates. The top "cap" of the pommel is made of brass and red enamel. The elaborate patterns that adorn the museum piece have been reproduced as faithfully as possible for this replica.

The early medieval one-handed sword is delivered with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with a wooden belt passage (maximum belt width 5 cm) and a brass cape with an antique finish. Please note that this sword is not suitable for display combat, as it is intended as a collector's item or decorative object and is ideal as an accessory to complement a costume.

The total length of the sword is about 89 cm, with a blade length of about 74 cm and a blade thickness of about 4.5 mm (cutting edge about 1 mm). The maximum width of the blade is about 5 cm, and the handle length is about 15 cm (handle area about 11 cm). The center of gravity is located about 17 cm in front of the stop, and the sword weighs about 1.2 kg without a scabbard and about 1.6 kg with a scabbard.
