The 8th century Anglo-Saxon Fetter Lane Sword is a truly extraordinary object that has drawn the attention of history enthusiasts and collectors for years. The sword blade was not found in the original archaeological find, but a classic early medieval style blade was selected for the detailed reconstruction of the Fetter Lane sword. The blade is made from heat-treated EN45 spring steel and has a fil wide on both sides almost reaching the tip. The parallel cutting edges are not sharpened.

Of particular note is the ornate cast brass handle which is tin-plated, giving it a silvery appearance. Like the original, it consists of several pieces riveted together. The filigree patterns that adorn the museum piece were reproduced as faithfully as possible.
