Anglo-Saxon Fetter Lane Sword

The 8th century Anglo-Saxon Fetter Lane Sword is a truly extraordinary object that has drawn the attention of history enthusiasts and collectors for years. Its remarkable construction, shape and refined ornamentation make it a finely crafted masterpiece believed to be that belonged to the prestige or ceremonial weapon of a rich or noble warrior of Germanic descent.

The sword blade was not found in the original archaeological find, but a classic early medieval style blade was selected for the detailed reconstruction of the Fetter Lane sword. The blade is made from heat-treated EN45 spring steel and has a fil wide on both sides almost reaching the tip. The parallel cutting edges are not sharpened.

Of particular note is the ornate cast brass handle which is tin-plated, giving it a silvery appearance. Like the original, it consists of several pieces riveted together. The filigree patterns that adorn the museum piece were reproduced as faithfully as possible. The upper "cap" of the pommel consists of a central arched element, which is framed on both sides by three smaller beads with pearl wire patterns. The pommel base and guard are of a three-part construction with diagonal decorative corrugation and an intermediate layer of untinned brass. The lavishly decorated handle area shows different plant/leaf tendrils and animal motifs woven into each side (winding snakes on one side and a bird or.

The Anglo-Saxon Fetter Lane sword is delivered with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with a wooden belt passage (maximum belt width 5 cm) and a tinned brass mouthpiece and cap. It is important to note that this sword is not suitable for display combat. It is intended as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete a costume.
