The two brothers and alchemists Edward and Alphonse Elric made a fatal mistake when they were young: when an attempt at a strictly forbidden transmutation goes wrong, Edward loses a leg. But something worse happened to his brother. Edward can only save him by agreeing to an equivalent exchange, which means sacrificing his arm to bind Alphonse's soul into a suit of armor. However, Alphonse's body seems to be lost. Too high a price for the two to have to pay for their recklessness. Thus, they decide to try everything to get their old bodies back.
