Cinquedea, short sword
Cold Steel's fascination with the Cinquedea (also known in the German-speaking world as the Ochsenzunge ) goes way back. It is known as the popular weapon of those nobles who had to navigate the narrow streets of the fortified towns of Italy. This sword was used solely for civilian self-defense and was basically the precursor to the side sword and civilian rapier, and yet it seems that this self-defense weapon owes its design as much to the dictates of fashion as the need for a deadly bladed weapon.
Traditional specimens of this unusual short-handled, sharp-bladed, multiple-fillet deep-serrated weapon are often ornate, ornate or gilded, reminiscent of jewellery rather than weapons. But behind this Romanticism typical of the High Renaissance style, there was hidden a useful instrument, a bat and thrusting weapon with a wide, rigid blade, which could be used in a confined space and was capable of inflicting a fatal wound!
Cold Steels' own interpretation of Cinquedea is made from expertly hardened 1065er carbon steel. The Parier and Knauf are richly decorated with engravings and the rosewood handle is decorated with hand-made carvings. The scope of delivery includes a leather sheath. The mouth plate and steel band are also engraved.
