This Viking Age knife based on finds from Bjá¶rkᶠ/ Birka (grave 944), Sweden, features a razor-sharp blade made of high-carbon steel. The wood and bone handle has an oval cross-section for a solid grip on the knife and the brass end cap is fitted with a handy lanyard hole (leather lanyard is included in delivery). The bone section is adorned with intricate period details. As the knife is entirely handmade, these embellishments may vary slightly from piece to piece. Please also note that bone is a natural product and variations in the colour and grain of the bone are quite common. Each Birka seax therefore has its own unique handle and the images above are for reference only.
The beautiful sheath is made of vegetable-tanned and hand-dyed leather with period brass fittings. It is equipped with three stylised brass rings and leather loops for the typical Viking-style horizontal carry. All details are also based on original finds from Birka.
Please note that as the blade is sharp and fully functional, this scramasax is intended as a collector's or decorative piece and is not suitable for combat reenactment.
