Small Viking saximeter with bone handle

This small Viking Age utility knife, which is also called a broken back saxophone due to its special blade shape, has a short, hand-forged blade made of carbon steel with a strong back.

The polished and impressive bone handle is decorated on both sides with beautiful Norse engravings in Borrestil (circa 850-950 AD) and ends with a brass clamp towards the blade. At the other end, the handle cap, also made of brass, has a practical steel eyelet with brass ring to hold a carrying strap or to conveniently draw the knife from the sheath (strap not included).

The Viking Age short sax comes with a strong and ornate sheath.
decorated with vegetable-tanned leather with a hand-woven braided pattern. Reinforcement plates made of bone, brass rivets and two hanging rings made of brass in the shape of sinuous snakes complete the look of the vagina in a beautiful way.

Details:

- Blade material: EN45 spring steel (carbon steel, not rust free), unsharpened
- Handle material: animal bones and brass (cast)
- Total length: approx. 21cm
- Blade length: approx. 10 cm
- Blade width: approx. 2.5 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 4 mm (approx. 3 mm in front of the tip)
- Weight: approx. 210 g (approx. 320 g with pod)
- Leather case with accessories
bone and brass and antique finish brass support rings
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.

Please note that bones and leather are natural products and deviations in colour and/or grain are quite normal. Since the knife is made entirely by hand, the decorations may also vary slightly from specimen to specimen. With this Viking sax, therefore, each handle or sheath is unique and the illustrations above are only for exemplary display.
