In today's blade industry, no one knows more about the Tanto than Cold Steel®. After all, Cold Steel® was probably the company that reinvented this type of knife and made it popular in the early 1980's. Cold Steel® has invested millions of dollars in advertising, live events, and videos to help convince the public of the Tanto Knife's many benefits. Cold Steel® has been making Tantos for over 35 years, and to this day no manufacturer or custom knife maker is in a position to produce a Tanto with even approximately the cutting and penetrating power of a Cold Steel® Tanto.

On all Tantos in this series, the longitudinally ground blade surface has visible polishing lines and forms a beautiful contrast to the satin-finished, matte-gloss, hollow-polished primary bevel. This further emphasizes the unique look of the Cold Steel®-Tanto and is an excellent example of how advanced the grinding processes used by Cold Steel® are.
Additionally, these Tantos are equipped with Cold Steels® famous Kray-Exâ„¢ handle with a flattened oval profile. The flat oval shape ensures a secure hold, because the handle rests in the palm of your hand and there is no wobbling or twisting of the knife, even for tougher tasks. Inferior quality would have been ruined long ago. The use of Kray-Exâ„¢ for knife handles is another Cold Steel® innovation. This space-age material is simply unmatched. It won’t tear or rot and is impervious to the harshest weather conditions.
Another feature worth mentioning here is the conical pommel made of solid steel, which was designed by Lynn C. Thompson and can serve as an effective hammer in case of emergency.

Each San Mai® Series Tanto knife is supplied with a high quality, rugged Secure-Ex® sheath that will withstand years of heavy use and allow you to carry your knife with you ready to use and ready to go.

At San Mai®, it is a professionally manufactured, three-layer stainless steel. A hard carbon steel is sandwiched between a flexible, low carbon spring steel. This ensures maximum edge retention with great resistance to lateral and sudden loads. San Mai® is a registered trademark of Cold Steel® worldwide. Produced in extremely small quantities, this steel is used exclusively for Cold Steel®'s most exclusive fixed collector blades.
