Argentine gaucho knife, Facon CST-88CLR1

The Facón is the national knife of Argentina where the gauchos made it famous. Its large, simply shaped blade proved ideal for everything from dispatching game and livestock to repairing tack and saddles, cooking and eating dinner.

With a blade resembling an oversized chef's knife, the Facón can trace its roots back to the 14th century, where it was widely used and carried by almost everyone from peasants and serfs to landed nobility. In fact, it was so popular that it jumped the Atlantic Ocean with the first European immigrants and became established in North and South America.

Now Cold Steel® is pleased to introduce its own version of this iconic knife. Forged in the classic shape from 1090 high carbon steel, its broad, thick blade measures approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) and offers a large hand spring along the spine. The handle is also traditionally hand carved from exotic Malaysian sal wood and capped front and back with a nickel-plated steel bolster and pommel. Even the sheath of the Cold Steel® Big Facón continues to follow the Argentine tradition by being molded from thick black leather stitched with a center seam and fitted with a stylish nickel-plated steel cape.

1090 high carbon steel
1090 high carbon steel is an excellent choice for larger fixed blades. It takes and maintains a good edge while remaining tough enough to withstand even the brutal stress tests of Cold Steel®. It is a good overall performance high carbon steel that is very forgiving when hit.
