While Cold Steel® loves the tremendous cutting and penetrating power of large fixed blade knives, there is no denying that such knives often attract unwanted attention or comments when you read about them. Small fixed knives like the Kyoto , on the other hand, are less noticeable due to their smaller size and inoffensive appearance.
Kyoto knives are either traditional ( tanto ) or buttressed ( straight back ) blade shape and offer incredible cutting and striking potential that their modest stature does not suggest. Each knife's tough, strong blade has a wide tang running through the handle. There is also a stainless steel hand guard and extremely non-slip Kray-Exâ„¢ handle scales, which optically mimic the traditional cord winding of Japanese sword handles.
The slim, comfortable sheath is versatile. A ball chain or Cold Steel® C-clip can be attached to it and the knife can be carried in a variety of ways.
8Cr13MoV stainless steel
8Cr13MoV has similar properties to AUS 8A and is a proven steel that is ideal for making work knives. Cold Steels® own testing has shown that this high carbon stainless steel is hard and corrosion resistant. Like AUS 8A, it shows good edge retention and can also be easily re-sharpened.
