The Roman Cingulum Militare was a leather belt, covered with decorative metal plates and often fitted with brackets or devices for hanging the soldier's dagger . This war belt was not only used to hold up the warrior's braccae (trousers) during battle, but was also a symbol of military rank or honour.

The cingulate often included a leather apron, the so-called cingulate, made up of a plurality of flat, narrow strips ( pteryges or pteruges ), which hung from the belt and were decorated with continuous rows of riveted metal fittings. Each strip ended with metal labels ( pensilia ).

The ornate Roman cincture belt or balteus offered here is most suitable to depict a legionary from the late 1st century. The riveted rectangular decorative plates (approx. 8.5 x 5 cm) made of thin brass sheet are embossed, alternating with the motif of a human face and the famous motif of the suckling she-wolf of Romulus and Remus or Lupa Romana . In Roman mythology, the twins are regarded as the founders of the city of Rome. The hinged buckle and the movable Pugio holder are also made of brass.

The lumbar belt is made of 3mm thick, sturdy leather. The strap is pre-cut and adjusts to a variety of sizes. A leather cord is included for tying and attaching a dagger to the button-shaped Pugio suspension. The striped apron consists of 4 leather straps and each strip is decorated with a pendant and 8 brass medallions.
