The Roman Cingulum Militare was a leather belt, covered with decorative metal plates and often fitted with brackets or devices for hanging the soldier's dagger . This war belt was not only used to hold up the warrior's braccae (trousers) during battle, but was also a symbol of military rank or honour.

The cingulate often included a leather apron, the so-called cingulate, made up of a plurality of flat, narrow strips ( pteryges or pteruges ), which hung from the belt and were decorated with continuous rows of riveted metal fittings. Each strip ended with metal labels ( pensilia ).

The ornate Roman cincture belt or balteus offered here is most suitable to depict a legionary from the late 1st century. The lumbar belt is made of 3mm thick, sturdy leather. The strap is pre-cut and adjusts to a variety of sizes.
