The Celts were a series of tribes that emerged during the Iron Age in Central Europe and later spread across Europe as far as the Balkan Peninsula and Ireland. They inhabited much of these territories until about 275 BC, before their territory was gradually usurped, conquered and occupied not only by the expanding Romans, but also by the Teutons, leaving them primarily in the British Isles and Ireland.
As skilled craftsmen, the Celts developed numerous patterns which they used throughout their cultural area to decorate all kinds of everyday objects such as pottery, jewellery, textiles, but also weapons and even monuments. The Celtic style, which is characterised above all by intertwined animal beings, spiral shapes and a variety of braided and knotted motifs, even found its way into many Christian pictorial manuscripts, whose illustrators were inspired by ancient pagan Celtic art.
This finely crafted and sturdy belt is made of 3mm thick brown cowhide leather and is fitted with a beautiful antique-finished brass buckle, fastened with two brass rivets. The approximately 170cm long and 4cm wide belt is decorated with an embossed braiding pattern / knot pattern in Celtic style and provided with 18 holes reinforced by brass eyelets. It can therefore be adjusted to a variety of sizes for a comfortable and individual fit (suitable for a waist circumference between approx. 70 and 120cm).
The belt buckle is decorated with two facing snakes or dragons with knot patterns, a recurring motif in Celtic and Norse/Viking art.
This leather belt is not only a stylish addition to any Celtic garment due to its design, but also fits into early medieval and Viking backgrounds. Suitable for men and women alike, this clothing accessory is ideal for medieval markets, reenactments or LARP events and also gives every modern outfit that certain something.
