This replica of a Germanic belt is provided with a replica of an original belt buckle, which was found near Balingen (Baden-Württemberg) in a German grave from the 5th or 6th century AD.
The belt is made of black cowhide,
approx. 4 cm wide and 4 mm thick. It is preserved in two different lengths, approximately 165 cm or 180 cm long, so that it can be worn knotted, as was customary in the High Middle Ages. The holes in the belt for the spiked buckle are located at a distance of approximately 92 to approximately 107 cm from the buckle. However, additional holes can easily be punched with punch pliers to increase or reduce the circumference.
The German belt buckle is
Made of zamak by die-casting. Zamak is an alloy with the main component z ink and with smaller proportions of aluminum, magnesium and Kupfer.
