Spangenhelm helmet

The Spangenhelm (from German Spangen, referring to the metal strips, and helm meaning helmet) seems to have spread throughout Europe due to Persian influence. Even with its weakness for the sectional design and reinforcements, it became a very common helmet from the 6th to the beginning of the 10th century. Little by little the Spangenhelm was replaced by other one-piece bald helmets such as nasal cones, capelins and later full helmets.

Made of 1.6mm steel, with 1.4mm steel strips and natural canvas lining. The thickness of the steel may vary due to the handcrafting of our products. Carbon steel is not treated so it may rust, which is easily removable. You can protect this item from rust with synthetic or mineral oil.
