The so-called big helmet , also called pot helmet , bucket helmet or barrel helmet (in English big helmet or big helmet or big helmet ), was often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. a brain-hood). It spread throughout Central Europe in the Middle Ages, and numerous contemporary images, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. attest to the popularity of this type of helmet. Such helmets appeared at the time of the Crusades in the late 12th / early 13th century and were worn by knights well into the 14th century.
To stand out from the crowd and emphasize their status, kings often wore a pot helmet with a crown on the battlefield. In this way, they could be more easily recognized by their own soldiers in the fray and receive special protection. Possibly, the crown also offered the king the opportunity to be taken hostage and held for ransom rather than being killed immediately by the opponent.
The finely crafted, handmade medieval helmet we offer here is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and decorated with a riveted brass crown. The individual parts are all connected to each other by steel rivets. Each of the viewing slots is about 13 cm long, 0.5 to 1 cm wide and the numerous round recesses on the right side ensure the necessary air circulation.
The blackened interior has a leather inlay, and the adjustable chin strap made of 3mm thick brown leather is fitted with a brass buckle (with an antique finish).
This truly majestic wearable helmet is suitable for light show combat, reenactment, LARP, stage or TV/film and will make your transformation into a noble king simply perfect. Of course, it is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
